His legacy
Captain Rivandra Wagh:
Capt. Rivandra Wagh, company commander of Company E, First Battalion, 125th Infantry, quoted from John 15:13 in the Bible during his eulogy, noting the words of Jesus: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Capt. Wagh said that he “shared ideals and a common sense of duty” with Akers and noted that when Akers volunteered to go to Iraq, “he knew full well the potential consequences of his actions.” “Sgt. Akers understood that duty was more than a cliché,” Wagh added. “He has left us all a legacy that we are called on to continue.” Rather than being disheartened by the death of Sgt. Akers, his fellow soldiers are more committed than ever to seeing the mission in Iraq completed, Wagh reported. “Our resolve is strengthened and bolstered by the example of Sgt. Akers,” the captain said.
Matt Mayer:
"Spencer was the best soldier I knew and he left a legacy that nobody else could ever leave behind, he is the reason I am the person I am today and he gave the ultimate sacrifice to his country, God bless him and all the troops."

Robert "Gus" Gustafson:
"He believed in what he was fighting for over here and he didn't stop until the end.  I can't believe how tough he was, and he fought to survive long enough to say goodbye to his family."
